Win number 7 for Rilski
BC Rilski Sportist continued the fight for first position in SIGAL-UNIQA Balkan League with another win. The Samokov team hosted KK Ibar and took an 89-71 victory after playing better in the second and third quarters. With that result Rilski is again tied with Blokotehna for the first position with 7 wins and 1 defeat while Ibar stays last with 1-5 record. The Montenegro team will visit Akademik Bultex 99 tomorrow while next week Rilski will travel to Sofia to play Levski Lukoil.
The visitors started well to take an early 5-point edge but a quick run by the hosts put them ahead. The two teams continued to be close in the first period but a 10-3 start of the second gave Rilski an 8-point lead. They kept that advantage until the break and then after it decided the final outcome. The hosts opened the second half with a 13-4 run and from then on controlled the difference and the match.
The top scorer for the winners was Martin Marinov with 17 points. Travis Taylor had 13 while Sheldon Jeter added 11 and 7 rebounds.
The former Rilski player - Gerel Simmons did very well against his former team and finished with 28 points for the visitors. Maurice Jeffers had a good debut with 18 points and 8 rebounds while Vladimir Tomasevic had 8 points.
