Superb first quarter leads Akademik to a big win in Tirana

BC Akademik Bultex 99 had no trouble to win against SK Tirana away from home. The Plovdiv side visited the Albanian champions and dominated the game to win 97-61. That put Akademik third in the standings with 4 wins and 4 defeats while the Albanians are sixth with 2-7 record.

The game was pretty much decided in the first quarter. The visitors opened it up with 11 straight points and then finished it on a 9-1 run to go up by 20 points. The difference didn′t change much in the second period but in the third Akademik stepped up the pace once again, increased the advantage and decided the outcome.

The top scorer for the win was Martin Durchev with 22 points as he added also 5 assists. Isiah Umipig and Vasil Bachev also did well by scoring 14 points apiece.

The hosts were led by Gerti Shima with 15 points and Endrit Hysenagolli with 12 and 11 rebounds.
