Beroe led from start to finish to defeat Levski 2014

BC Beroe won the first game of the Qualification Round for Top 8 in SIGAL-UNIQA Balkan League. In the tournament′s first game they defeated BC Levski 2014 80-70 after leading from start to finish. Beroe managed to build a big advantage at the end of the first quarter and controlled the game after that. This result leaves Levski with no option but to defeat KK Lovcen Basket tomorrow in order to have a chance to qualify further. Beroe will rest on the second day and will play Lovcen on Thursday.

After both teams exchanged points early Beroe managed to pull away by 9 after scoring 7 in a row. Then Levski closed the gap to 4 but Stanislav Vaklinov answered with 9-0 run for Beroe which gave him a total of 19 points in the first quarter and 13 advantage for his team.

A good start of the second quarter gave Beroe even bigger lead. The team from Stara Zagora was controlloing the match and didn′t allow Levski to cut the deficit. The lead reached 20 after Evrik Gary scored a triple with 2.41 left in the first half and until the break The Blues cut only 4 of their deficit.

A triple by Yordan Minchev closed the gap to 13 points but it didn′t last long. Beroe answered with 6-0 run to once again increase it to 19 and The Greens kept controlling the game in the next minutes. Their advantage reached 23 points but the third quarter finished with 8-0 run for Levski which cut it to 15.

The Blues opened up the last quarter with another 6 straight points which closed the gape to single digits. Then Tihomir Zhelev scored a triple but Levski were on a roll and then cut the deficit to 8. Auston Barnes though took an important offensive rebound and also scored a three-pointer. Still The Blues didn′t stop but another Zhelev triple decided the game with 2.24 to play. 

Stanislav Vaklinov had a great performance for the winners finishing with 26 points and 10 rebounds. Tihomir Zhelev and Evrik Gary had 13 points apiece for Beroe.

Stanislav Slaveykov kept the fire for Levski and finished with 27 points and 7 rebounds while Aleks Simeonov had a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds.
